On October 1, 2007 Governor Christine Gregoire appointed Donald F. Aubrey to the Washington State Board of Accountancy. Don was reappointed by Governor Jay Inslee on June 10, 2013.
Don graduated from Idaho State University in 1973 with a Bachelor's Degree in accounting and obtained an MS in Taxation from Golden Gate University (GGU) in 1984. He was selected by GGU as the outstanding graduate from their MS program in 1984.
Don started his accounting career with Price Waterhouse in Seattle in 1973 and began specializing in tax in 1976. In 1979 he joined the local accounting firm of Ansell Johnson & Co. Three years later he helped form the firm of Aubrey, Bourne & Freidig and managed the tax department. In the fall of 1987 Don was selected by Money Magazine as one of the top tax accountants in the United States. He also had a weekly tax planning program on KIRO radio in Seattle, hosted by Dave Ross. In 1988 AB&F merged into BDO Seidman, LLP. While at BDO, Don was in charge of the Firm's Tax Level III CPE program. He helped develop instruction materials and teach classes for BDO's tax seniors. Don was selected as the program's outstanding instructor for three of the five years he participated in the program. Don also contributed to the development of the firm's quality control manual and assisted in the tax quality control review of other BDO offices. After 15 years in the Seattle office of BDO Seidman, LLP, Don transferred to the Menlo Park, California office and managed a tax practice specializing in serving high wealth individuals. Don retired from BDO in 2005 and returned to Seattle. He currently works as a Tax Director for Rebar & Associates in Seattle.
In 1978 Don and his family joined the Seattle Area Special Olympics Games Committee. For over 25 years the Aubreys produced track, skiing, softball, volleyball, bowling, sailing, swimming, basketball, and gymnastics events. In 1994 Don was recognized for distinguished volunteer service by Washington State Special Olympics. Don also enjoys mountain climbing. He has climbed all eleven volcanoes in the Cascades with elevations in excess of 10,000 ft. Don has been actively involved with the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA). He is a past treasurer of the WSCPA, has served on the Board of Directors, and has been a member of the Finance Committee for over nine years. In 1998 the WSCPA awarded Don the Distinguished Service Award.
Don holds a valid Washington State CPA license to practice public accounting.
