What is the Board's authority?

Our authority is limited to regulating the practice of public accounting in Washington which includes:

  • CPAs
  • CPA-Inactive certificateholders
  • CPA exam applicants
  • CPA firms
  • Non-licensee CPA firm owners

The Board does not have any authority over non-CPA accountants or bookkeepers. For complaints against accountants or bookkeepers, contact the Attorney General's Office - Safeguarding Consumers.
